Children come from Consciousness through us. So, they do not belong to us but they belong to the Universe. Children are the way consciousness evolves the Universe. So, each generation of Children learn the parents knowledge and then improve on it. It takes at least 5 generations for the universe to have a complete time cycle of growth, with changing ideals and beliefs. It then starts a new cycle to the next paradigm.
The best way to raise children is through a process of building a relationship with them, so they trust your judgment. Children naturally learn from you and copy your behavior, so most behavior problems result from the parents own behavior, and poor relationship with them. Children should be allowed to learn about life on their own, naturally feeling the consequences of their behavior. If they want to go out into the cold without gloves, and you explain that cold will hurt their hands, but they insist, let them experience cold hands. If something is too dangerous for them to experience on their own, you can teach them to trust your judgment by imposing a logical consequence.
No human, including children, should ever be Hit. It only teaches them to hit, and is not logical to any situation. Corporal punishment can appear to work short term, but in the long term, when they are not with you the lesson you are trying to teach will just be artificial and not truly part of them.
In about 2 cases out of 100, children are born who don’t have the mental ability to learn about life naturally. These children need to be seen by someone who specializes in children's problems, but most children who have behavior problems have learned their behavior from the environment around them, or because of their poor relationships with you.
